Turkish Tourist Shot to Death Outside Hotel in Orlando

A Turkish man who was honeymooning in Orlando with his new wife was shot and killed on Thursday outside of a hotel resort, Fox 35 reported.

When an armed robber tried to steal a purse from Osman Darcan’s wife, Darcan tried to defend his wife and was shot multiple times, Orange County Sheriff's Office Capt. Angelo Nieves at a news conference, according to Fox.

The robber jumped into a car waiting nearby and fled the scene without the purse, Fox reported.

Orlando has been plagued by tragedy over the past few months - from the fatal shooting of a former contestant of “The Voice” to the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history to an alligator killing a toddler at Walt Disney World.

Despite those tragedies, Nieves told Fox that this was the first tourist who has been killed in Orlando's tourism district in recent history. He said police will step up patrols in the area.
