Passengers aboard an early morning United Airlines flight from Las Vegas to Houston received an unwelcome wakeup call during a scary incident at George Bush Intercontinental Airport on Monday morning.
According to Dale Lezon of the Houston Chronicle, Flight 1545 was carrying 167 passengers and six crew members when it skidded off a runway and got stuck in mud amid inclement weather. The Boeing 737 landed without issue but lost traction and slid into the grass after attempting to turn off the runway.
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported.
Houston Airport System spokesman Bill Begley said the incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. local time and there were no flight delays as a result. However, the runway was temporarily closed so that crews could clear the scene.
FOX 7 News weekend anchor Ashley Paredez documented the evacuation of passengers, who were then put on shuttles that transported them to the terminal.
This photo from Paredez shows the aircraft's front landing gear buried in the dirt.
It remains unclear whether rain caused the plane's nose gear to slip on the runway.
