Chinese police have arrested three airline passengers after a video was released of them slapping, verbally abusing and throwing food at employees following an announcement that their flight had been delayed.

According to The Associated Press, the incident took place at Changsha Huanghua International Airport in Changsha, China, when passengers become upset that their flight to the city of Sanya was delayed.

The customers of the airline became so outraged by the news that they began verbally assaulting employees. Eventually a woman threw an entire plate of food at the staff members working the airline desk and then a man slapped one of the female employees in the face.

The three travelers shown verbally and physically attacking employees were arrested by police. The AP is reporting that cases such as this could result in as long as two weeks in non-criminal detention without trial for those accused.

The YouTube account of People’s Daily shared video of the incident:

As a result of similar incidents, the Chinese government has created a black list for fliers who are considered disruptive or dangerous. The black list is public, and airlines, hotels and other travel professionals can use it as a way to refuse service to specific customers.
