If you traveled and stayed at a hotel over the New Year's holiday, odds are you had a better experience than a California couple whose nightmarish stay has since gone viral.
Elgin Ozlen posted a six-minute video to YouTube Friday documenting the room he and his girlfriend were staying at in the Astor on the Park Hotel on Manhattan's Upper West Side.
On top of a disgusting bed bug swarm Ozlen and his girlfriend discovered on the bottom side of the mattress, the California native points out that the room's heater is broken along with multiple power outlets.
"We're going to now the third room that we've been moved to in two nights," Ozlen says before entering.
Ozlen told New York's ABC 7 that the trip to the Big Apple was a gift from his mother and that the couple had planned to watch the ball drop in Times Square on New Year's Eve. However they were forced to spend the holiday (and Ozlen's birthday) in the hospital and ridding their belongings of bed bugs.
"We were expecting a vacation to remember the rest of our lives, and we will definitely remember it for the rest of our lives, but it won't be a pleasant memory," Ozlen told ABC 7.
The hotel declined to comment on the video but Ozlen told ABC 7 that the staff apologized and he was refunded his money.
ABC 7 spoke to another guest who described her stay at the Astor on the Park as "near perfect." Nonetheless the woman called the video "pretty disturbing."
The video is closing in on one million views as of Monday morning.
