The rush is on. Thanks to a flood of new passports issued in 2006 and 2007 after new technology was introduced, the next 24 months will see a huge amount of passports coming up for renewal.

The U.S. State Department is urging consumers to get ahead of the curve and not to wait until the last minute. TravelPulse founder and CEO Mark Murphy joined CBS News Live to discuss the passport dilemma for consumers and how best to heed the government warning. 

Many travelers see the expiration date on their passports and think they're good to travel until that date comes. But did you know you might be denied international travel six months out from the date on which your passport expires?
