A British tourist trying to escape a summer heat wave drowned after disappearing Friday night in a resort town in the Balearic islands off eastern Spain, the Daily Mail reported.

Tom Jarvis, 22, had gone for an evening swim with a friend, who made it to shore at about 9 p.m. Friday, the newspaper reported. Police, the Civil Guard and the Red Cross conducted an extensive search, and divers found the body early Saturday morning in Cala des Moro, near the popular tourist spot of Cafe del Mar.

A friend of Jarvis told the Daily Mail that the man was “one of the nicest blokes you could ever meet.” Another friend said he was a “lovely, genuine guy.”
