Lake Atitlán’s Casa Palopó Hotel Welcomes Executive Chef
Casa Palopó, a private home turned luxury boutique hotel overlooking Lake Atitlán, welcomes back Mario André Miralles Alcazar as executive chef of the hotel’s in-house restaurant – 6.8 Palopó. Picking up where he left off, Chef Miralles began his career at Casa Palopó under the ownership of Billy Bickford, who turned the property into a boutique hotel. Eager to garner more experience as a private chef, he went on to work for Guatemalan actor Oscar Isaac, American actors Charlize Theron and Stuart Townsend, and Grammy Award winner Emilio Estefan. Most recently, Chef Miralles was at Hotel Camino Real in Managua, Nicaragua, where he was executive chef.
Avanti Appoints Industry Veteran Molly Blackmon South Central Regional Sales Director
FIT tour operator Avanti Destinations announced the appointment of Dallas-based Molly Blackmon as south central regional sales director, calling on agents in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Arkansas.
A veteran of the travel industry for nearly 30 years, Blackmon was business development manager for Mark Travel (Milwaukee, WI) since 1995, handling Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. Before that she was with Transglobal Vacations (Minneapolis, MN). Blackmon launched her travel career, straight out of college, as sales director for Dan Dipert Tours (Arlington, TX).
Grand Hyatt New York Appoints New Executive Sous Chef
The iconic Grand Hyatt New York in Midtown Manhattan is pleased to announce the appointment of Christian (CJ) Clark as executive sous chef. Clark has been with the Hyatt family for over 11 years, most recently serving as the executive sous chef at Hyatt Times Square. In his new role, Clark will work with Chef de Cuisine Daron Lee to manage food and beverage operations as well as develop the menu and culinary offerings at the hotel’s fine dining restaurant New York Central, which serves locally sourced and seasonally inspired dishes.
Chef CJ Clark’s deep appreciation for local American cuisine started at a young age growing up in Northern New Jersey. Surrounded by farmland, he learned the importance of working with farms and produce providers in the area to create local sustainable dishes that spoke of the seasons. Clark started his culinary journey with Hyatt in 2005 as a culinary supervisor at Hyatt Regency Morristown under Chef Lonnie Crowe where he quickly moved up the ranks to become chef de cuisine at the property’s Eclectic Grill. After over eight years there, he went on to open Hyatt Times Square as executive sous chef in 2013 under Chef Nick Pelliccione overseeing T45 Restaurant and Bar 54, the hotel’s rooftop outpost. Chef Clark brings his creativity and innate passion for local sustainable cuisine to his new role as executive sous chef at Grand Hyatt New York, helping to further develop the property’s culinary offerings.
Ka’anapali Beach Hotel Announces Appointment Of Yvonne Gu As Online Sales And Marketing Manager
Ka`anapali Beach Hotel, announces the appointment of Yvonne Gu as online sales and marketing manager. In this role, she will increase brand awareness and manage the hotel’s digital sales and marketing programs.
Gu’s prior hospitality experience involves a position as sales and marketing manager at the Grand Hyatt in Shanghai, China and a management trainee position at Makena Beach & Golf Resort in Maui. Most recently, Gu worked for the Hawaii Tourism Authority in Honolulu, spearheading market insights from China and delivering design and content recommendations for the goHawaii mobile application.
