One&Only Resorts Appoint Ed Brea As General Manager One&Only Hayman Island
One&Only Resorts announces the appointment of established industry leader Ed Brea as general manager, One&Only Hayman Island in the Great Barrier Reef, Australia. In his new role, Mr. Brea is responsible for the entire operation of One&Only Hayman Island and its continued strategic development.
Brea joins One&Only with over 30 years of experience in the luxury hospitality industry, including key positions at prestigious hotel brands Hyatt and Shangri-La. He started his career in the early 1980s at the Hyatt Regency Maui in Hawaii where he worked in a variety of roles throughout food and beverage. He continued to develop within Hyatt, with further roles in the Philippines, Australia and Singapore and then was appointed resident manager at Grand Hyatt Taipei in 1999.
J.D. O’Hara Promoted to Partner at Certares
Certares has announced that J.D. O’Hara – who had recently been serving as president of New York-based Tzell Travel Group – was recently promoted to partner at Certares. While O’Hara’s promotion marks his departure from Tzell, he will continue exploring multiple avenues for the company’s growth, along with that for its parent company Travel Leaders Group.
Wyndham Hotel Group Strengthens Marketing Bench with Addition of JetBlue Executive Lisa Borromeo Checchio
Reinforcing its strong commitment and focus on building enhanced brands, Wyndham Hotel Group today announced the appointment of Lisa Borromeo Checchio as vice president, brand marketing. Checchio joins the world’s largest hotel company from JetBlue Airways where she helped lead JetBlue’s marketing and advertising including the launch of its award-winning “Air on the Side of Humanity” campaign and the airline's premium product, Mint.
Checchio spent 11 years at JetBlue where she oversaw strategy and execution of marketing programs in addition to leading advertising, brand communications and design, sponsorships, consumer promotions, branded content, regional marketing and buzz programs. Prior to JetBlue, Checchio worked in account management at Sports+Plus in Bethesda, Md. She achieved her Bachelor of Arts in Economics from George Washington University. Checchio will be based at Wyndham Worldwide’s headquarters in Parsippany, N.J. parent company Travel Leaders Group.
The Family Travel Association Appoints New Executive Director
Chris “Chez” Chesak has been appointed executive director of the Family Travel Association (FTA), a new industry coalition dedicated to inspiring families to travel. A veteran of the travel industry, Chesak brings over 20 years experience in corporate partnerships, business development, and organizational leadership to the FTA. In his new role, Chesak will develop and implement innovative programs for the group and will oversee the recruitment of new travel industry suppliers, influencers and media partners.
Prior to joining the FTA, Chesak served as Director of Partnerships for the Intrepid Group and Adventure.com. Previously, he spent nine years at the Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA) in various executive and business development roles. Chesak has also had stints at outdoor associations like the American Hiking Society (where he managed the National Trails Day program) and the venerable, 100+ year-old The American Alpine Club.
G6 Hospitality Appoints New Vice President To Lead Franchise Operations
G6 Hospitality, known for its iconic economy lodging brands, Motel 6 and Studio 6 in the U.S. and Canada, announced the appointment of John Valletta as vice president with oversight to the enterprise franchise operations reporting to Mike Brower, Executive Vice President of Operations of G6 Hospitality.
With more than 40 years of hospitality experience, Valletta is a veteran leader in the economy lodging segment. Most recently, Valletta served as brand president for Super 8 under the Wyndham Worldwide Corporation. Additionally, he held various brand leadership positions over the last 12 years with Howard Johnson and Travelodge as well as regional operations roles with Prime Hospitality (Wellesley Inn & Suites) and La Quinta. Valletta will be based in Bradenton, Florida.
Sabre appoints Hani Joakim as senior vice president of Hospitality Solutions Product Development
Sabre Corporation has named Hani Joakim as senior vice president of Hospitality Solutions Product Development. In this role, he will lead all aspects of software development and technology for Sabre Hospitality Solutions, a leading provider of distribution, operations, retailing, guest experience and business intelligence solutions for more than 23,000 hotels worldwide.
Joakim has been with Sabre for 19 years, serving Sabre Airline Solutions in a senior technology leadership role for the last eight years. He was most recently vice president of eCommerce digital platform and technology services for Sabre Airline Solutions.
Gansevoort Park Avenue NYC Names Joel Freyberg Managing Director
Joel Freyberg has been appointed managing director of Gansevoort Park Avenue, the second location of Gansevoort Hotel Group in New York City. Freyberg began his tenure with the group in 2004 as part of the pre-opening team at Gansevoort Meatpacking, the brand’s flagship property, serving as Hotel Manager.
Freyberg comes to Gansevoort Park Avenue with an unmatched knowledge of New York and premium hospitality. Prior to joining Gansevoort Park Avenue, Freyberg served as general manager of The Chatwal New York where he launched the first luxury hotel in the theatre district, establishing the property as a Forbes Five-Star and AAA Five-Diamond status and paving the way for new luxury properties in the area. As the hotel manager of Gansevoort’s premier property in the Meatpacking District, Freyberg successfully instituted service standards resulting in a Forbes Four-Star and AAA Four-Diamond rating while creating the first full service, luxury resort in Manhattan's historic Meatpacking District.
Austin Bagwell Appointed Group Sales Account Director For New England
The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotel has named Austin Bagwell group sales account director. In Bagwell’s new role, she will be responsible for the supervision of accounts in the New England market.
Bagwell brings more than 10 years of experience to the hotel, having previously been part of group sales teams at Las Vegas convention hotels including Aria Resort and Casino and The Cosmopolitan. She also has previous experience in the Orlando convention market as an account executive for the destination management company Hello! Florida. Bagwell is a graduate of the University of Central Florida.
Alan Enns Appointed Group Sales Account Director For Washington, D.C./Virginia/Maryland Association Markets
The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotel has appointed Alan Enns group sales account director, overseeing accounts in the Washington, D.C./Virginia/Maryland Association market.
Enns has nearly 30 years of experience with the Washington, D.C. market in roles with multiple Starwood properties and as the director of sales at The Peabody Orlando. He attended Calvin College.
Vacation.com Taps H. Scott Ackerman as Senior Vice President of Product Development
Vacation.com, North America’s leading travel business and marketing solutions provider to the leisure travel distribution channel, has announced the addition of travel industry veteran H. Scott Ackerman, who will serve as the company’s Senior Vice President of Product Development. The new role will be focused on developing additional revenue streams for Vacation.com member agencies across multiple segments of the industry. With nearly a quarter century of experience within multiple sectors of the travel industry, Ackerman most recently served with distinction as the senior vice president of sales for AIG Travel Guard.
Prior to Ackerman’s lengthy tenure as senior vice president of sales with AIG Travel Guard, he was responsible for business and strategy development plans, and negotiating deals with corporate accounts in the hotel industry. Additionally, he has held leadership positions with various hotel and travel companies, namely Certified Vacations Group and Prime Hospitality. During his time at Certified Vacations Group, Ackerman was the general manager for the Continental Airlines Vacations sector. In 2002, while working at Prime Hospitality, he was named vice president of sales, overseeing 460 hotels in the U.S.
