British travelers go on holiday, Americans take vacations, so when Solos Holidays opened in the U.S. it transformed to Solos Vacations. Either way, the tour operators focus on the growing trend of people traveling solo.
Solos has done its research. According to the company, Google searches for “solo travel” jumped up by nearly a third in 2014 over the previous year. The state of being single is on the rise. Solo cites the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics in saying that more than half of U.S. adults are now singles – 50.2 percent as compared to 22 percent in 1950.
An AARP survey published last December found that 37 percent of people 45 and older took a trip by themselves in the last two years, but that trend too is moving dramatically upward. More than 80 percent of that group plan to take a solo trip in the next year.
Solos vacations are group tours for singles. All guests are guaranteed a room of their own, or can opt for a same-sex roommate to bring down the bill.
Solos Holidays is well prepared for the trend toward solo travel. The company has been operating trips for single travelers since 1982, one may say “before it was fashionable.”
The company has been awarded as the UK’s best singles holiday company in the British Travel Awards for the last four years.
Solos Holidays offers a wide range of destinations, from Austria to Vietnam, including Brazil, China, Costa Rica, Croatia, Egypt, Morocco, St. Lucia, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Tunisia, Turkey, the UAE and even the United States!
Solos Vacations is testing the waters of the U.S. market with a trimmed down selection of vacations in Italy and Britain. These include an 11-day Grand Tour of Italy, a nine-day London-Paris trip, a 10-day England Exploration, an 11-day England and Scotland and a 12-day Great Britain and Ireland.
