Expedition Russia: Footsteps of the Arctic Nomads
From St. Petersburg, this 15-day journey takes visitors by bus, train and Trekol to the Yamal Peninsula – which is literally at the end of the world, above the Arctic Circle. It is the home of the Nenets, a tribe of nomadic reindeer herders, who have invited Intrepid travelers into their community to see firsthand how they live. Guests will learn how people survive on the frozen tundra where the temperatures dip to as much as 50 degrees below zero, Celsius and how they rely on their herds of reindeer.
