Intrepid Travel has launched new expeditions that get to the heart of what it means to be “intrepid.” They are original, unexpected and as far off the beaten path as possible. These 2016-2017 trips visit some of the world’s wildest frontiers and feature exclusive once-in-a-lifetime experiences that may not be available in years to come.

“These tours are crowd-sourced internally from our world-traveled staff who have put their passion for adventure and world exploration into highly tailored itineraries,” said Leigh Barnes, North America director for Intrepid Travel. “The team is keen to share a piece of themselves and these unique places that reward travelers with eye-opening experiences and the ability to delve deeply into these destination.”

If you have ever thought about searching for snow leopards in India or celebrating Myanmar’s Naga Festival, this may be the time. Here are a few of the journeys that the coming year has in store.

Expedition Russia: Footsteps of the Arctic Nomads

From St. Petersburg, this 15-day journey takes visitors by bus, train and Trekol to the Yamal Peninsula – which is literally at the end of the world, above the Arctic Circle. It is the home of the Nenets, a tribe of nomadic reindeer herders, who have invited Intrepid travelers into their community to see firsthand how they live. Guests will learn how people survive on the frozen tundra where the temperatures dip to as much as 50 degrees below zero, Celsius and how they rely on their herds of reindeer. The trip takes place July 25, 2017.

The eight-day trek leaves March 25, 2017.
