Intrepid Travel Donating Profits from Nepal Trips to Nepal Recovery Efforts

Intrepid Travel is donating revenues from trips to Nepal to efforts to help the country recover from the earthquake and avalanche of April 25.

The tour operator is donating all profits for trips in both 2015 and 2016 to recovery projects supported by the company’s sister non-profit organization The Intrepid Foundation.

Intrepid has already raised $400,000 Australian dollars toward recovery efforts in its Nepal Earthquake appeal. It has been donated to the children’s charity Plan International to provide shelter, sanitation and food to more than 120,800 Nepalese people.

Intrepid has set $1 million as its goal of funds to be raised for the effort by the end of the travel season of 2016.

The move by Intrepid provides a way for anyone to help the rebuilding and recovery efforts in Nepal simply by traveling there with Intrepid.

The profits donated to The Intrepid Foundation will be turned over to a combination of local and international NGOs, including the Kathmandu Environmental Education Program. Intrepid also plans to partner with other organizations that are helping in the rebuilding efforts.

For those who do travel to Nepal with Intrepid, the operator is setting safety of travelers as its top priority.

“Obviously, our staff and travelers’ welfare is our primary concern and we won’t send a single traveler to Nepal until we are satisfied it is safe to do so,” said Intrepid on its website.

“As such, Intrepid is currently part of a comprehensive assessment of the condition of popular trekking routes and accommodation. We will keep you up to date on the progress as it comes to hand. Our expert guides and ground crew (who were instrumental in keeping our passengers safe during the earthquake) are still the best-qualified people to lead you through Nepal. That's something that will never change.”

Intrepid is posting its safety updates about Nepal here.
