Spring is here and a young man's thoughts are likely turning to the best spots for a sunny getaway.
Exclusive Group Travel is a tour operator specializing in such warm-weather destinations as Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America. But staying home – or at least close to it – isn’t so bad either.
Not when it’s Miami.
Exclusive Group Travel sells exclusively to travel agents. As such, they have an insight like no other into fun (and free) things to do in Miami. Here are nine such ideas.
Festivals and parades. Every day is a cause for celebration when you're in Miami. Depending on when you plan a visit, the city may have free art or music festivals going on. Art Deco lovers will want to visit in January when the city comes alive to celebrate the architecture and culture of the era. Just a few months later, more than 100,000 people come together to celebrate Carnaval on the Mile, a two-day block party celebrating Latin music, art and food. Fourth of July fireworks, DWTWN Art Days, the King Mango Strut Parade and more fill out the year. And October - May, visitors can enjoy a free movie on the lawn at the New World Center on South Beach.

Spa days. Miami is well known for its non-stop energy, but even the most stalwart party enthusiast needs a break now and then. Luckily, Miami is equally well known as a spa town. In fact, Miami Beach has been called an international spa capital. Visitors will not want for choices with everything from traditional holistic experiences to indulgent luxury pampering on offer.
Shop till you drop. Luxury boutiques, vintage thrift stores, concept shops and outlet malls. No matter what your poison, Miami has it all. Best of all, thanks to Miami's year-round fantastic weather, much of these shopping venues are in outdoor air malls and colorful shopping streets meaning you can combine shopping and time in the great outdoors.
Have a ball. As home to three-time NBA World Champion Miami Heat, not to mention the Miami Dolphins, baseball’s Marlins and a host of college, horse racing and golf events, Miami is a sportsman's paradise. For those who like to do rather than watch, Miami's perfect weather makes it ideal for runners, fishermen and weekend golfers, alike.
Take a bite out of life. Miami's dining scene is almost as hot (if not more) as its nightlife. There, visitors can have their taste buds tempted by everything from farm-to-table meals and fresh seafood to fiery Latin American cuisine and hand-rolled sushi.
Sun ‘n fun. A trip to Miami without visiting the beach is hardly imaginable. With almost as many beaches as there are inhabitants, it's hard to narrow down which beach to hit first. Those who prefer being in the water rather than by it shouldn't miss a trip to Biscayne National Park, 95 percent of which is underwater, making it the largest marine park in the national park system.
After hours. New York isn't the only city that never sleeps. Between glittering rooftop lounges, waterfront bars and Happy Hour hotspots, Miami is the place to see and be seen.
See the sights. Architectural attractions, animal encounters, museums and family-friendly fun. All this and more awaits visitors to Miami. Insider tip: The GoMiamiCard is a must for anyone wanting to see the sites as visitors can save up to 55 percent off full admission prices.
One if by land ... In a city as vast and vibrant as Miami, it's a good idea to get your footing before deciding what to do first. A city tour is an ideal way to get one's bearings. Beyond the glitzy city lies a rich history dating back to the Tequesta Indians. Learn about the Miami before it became an international playground.
