Phil Otterson, president of Abercrombie & Kent USA, has selected Japan, Hong Kong and the Ryukyu Islands Cruise for the next President’s Tour. Otterson will join the guests of the cruise tour on its May 28-June 11, 2017 departure.
The cruise will take place onboard the L’Austral, a luxury cruise ship operated by the French cruise line company Compagnie du Ponant.
“It’s a cruise to the rarely visited Ryukyu Islands off the coast of Japan,” Otterson told TravelPulse. “And it ties in Taiwan and Hong Kong.”
For the program, Abercrombie & Kent charters the ship and takes over. The ship has a capacity of 264 passengers, but with A&K trips the number is limited to 199.
“True to A&K, it’s an exclusive charter as we always do,” said Otterson. “We have our usual arrangement in which all of the people belong to us, the tour directors, expedition leaders and naturalists, the cruise director.”
The itinerary has stops at about a dozen ports, begins at Osaka, Japan, stops at a few ports on mainland Japan, then travels southward along the Ryukyu chain of islands, stopping at five of them before landing at two ports in Taiwan and finally concluding in Hong Kong.
The itinerary is designed to explore both natural and cultural wonders of the region. Seven UNESCO World Heritage sites are included. The stops in Taiwan and Hong Kong provide opportunities to compare and observe Asian cultures that exhibit high degrees of Western influence historically.
