Small Group Travels Spur Insider Journeys

Insider Journeys (formerly Travel Indochina) has experienced tremendous growth in sales from North America since opening their sales office in Colorado in 2012, which North America director Mark Yacker largely attributes to Americans’ discovery of the up-close-and-personal nature of the company’s small group touring style.
Yacker said Insider Journeys’ ‘Small Group Journey’ style of travel, where the group size is never more than 16 travelers, has been very popular with Australians and Europeans for more than 20 years, and is now finally grabbing the attention of American travelers.
“Many people have not been aware of the benefits that our small group travel offers, including increased access for travelers, less impact on local communities, outstanding value, unique inclusions, Western tour leaders as well as local English-speaking guides,” he said. “And, perhaps best of all, the camaraderie of like-minded travellers, mostly from Australia, Canada and the UK, to share the experience with.”
This is supported by consumer research recently conducted by Insider Journeys and Forethought Research, which found that travelers considered group travel because it provides the confidence to travel to countries they don’t know much about, it includes all the ‘must-see’ places at the destination and it provides the opportunity to meet interesting people.
“The popular misconception of group travel is an image of the big, impersonal group that offers no flexibility in the itinerary and jumps from one ‘tourist trap’ to another,” explains Yacker. “Nothing could be further from the truth with our small group concept, which travels with an average of 12 and a maximum of 16 passengers. Our travelers are seeking a balance of planned activity and free time to encourage the spontaneity and unplanned interactions that create travel’s most memorable experiences, but they also enjoy the peace of mind that comes from having professionals with local knowledge organize their days and take care of all the logistics.”
Insider Journeys most popular destinations continue to be Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Burma (Myanmar). However, the company has also seen double digit growth to China, India and Japan in the past 12 months.
“With over 70 itineraries in Asia, across 11 different countries and more than 1,000 guaranteed departure dates to choose from, our Small Group Journey program offers inquisitive travelers the perfect balance of iconic must-see attractions combined with a range of more intimate ‘insider experiences’, which help them truly connect with the destination in a sustainable and responsible way,” Yacker said.
He added: “Importantly, travelers don’t need to take our word for it; they can now hear what fellow travelers thought about their Insider Journeys trip, directly from the source, since we have introduced past traveler reviews, by independent ratings and review provider, Reevoo, right on our site. Travelers provide direct feedback on all aspects of their tours, including accommodation, the content of their vacation, tour leaders, local guides and value for money, leaving their unedited comments to be seen on www.insider-journeys.com.”
