Travel Indochina Rebrands as Insider Journeys
Asia cultural travel specialist Travel Indochina has outgrown its name and is rebranding itself as Insider Journeys.
The 21-year old company expanded beyond Indochina in its range of operations years ago, so the name has become somewhat of a misnomer. And while they are at it, the company also wants its brand to better represent what the company really offers.
The company has no plans to expand its operations beyond its present domain: Asia, or “from India to Japan,” as Mark Yacker, the company’s director of North America, puts it.
But the product or the service that the company provides is not just defined by destination. It’s about the kind of access the company provides to the destination, the kind of experience it enables you to have. And that makes all the difference.
Everyone knows you can have a terrible time in the best of places. Competent, secure management of your vacation time is the primary service of tour operating. Getting you safely there, providing the essentials of the trip in comfort are the basic requirements of a tour operator. And then there are all the other things that are possible in a travel experience. That’s where one tour operator can set itself apart from the crowd.
“What people are looking for are experiences,” says Mark Yacker. “What we are doing is sharing this part of the world that we love. One of the things that sets us apart is that we are using insider knowledge to get away from the crowd.”
The main gate to the temples at Angkor Wat is unfortunately extremely crowded. Traveling half way around the world to see one of the universally acknowledged most awesome sites in world civilization, and then to get stuck in a traffic jam just as you approach the grand temple complex, is the height of absurdity. But that does mar the experience of many visitors.
Insider Journeys has another way. The group gets up before dawn and heads to the east gate, carrying flashlights through the pre-dawn jungle as the birds are waking up around you. It’s only a few minutes’ walk, but the experience of walking through the Cambodian jungle at sunrise! Coming in from that side, your first sight of the temples is through the trees as you approach the clearing.
That’s the kind of experience Insider Journeys specializes in. For years the company has been offering this kind of what it calls “Insider Experiences.” That is what makes the company unique, and that’s what it wanted its brand to represent.
So that’s the way it is. From this day forward: Travel Indochina has morphed. Long live Insider Journeys!
