ASTA has introduced an online course aimed at individuals interested in pursuing a career as a travel agent.
This course explains the skills needed to become a travel advisor, the dynamics of the travel industry, the multiple travel agency business models, and where to find training options.
"ASTA receives a phone call or a Facebook message every day from someone asking how they can become a travel agent," said Zane Kerby, ASTA president and CEO. "We thought who better than ASTA to offer a course that will also help our member agencies bring new talent in the industry."
The cost of the "Becoming a Travel Agent" course, open to everyone, is $25. It's designed for people who are entrepreneurial in spirit, who have great social interaction and interpersonal skills and have always wanted to play a key role in this exciting yet complex industry, said ASTA.
Amanda Cecil, Ph.D, CMP, Undergraduate Program Director & Associate Professor of the Department of Tourism, Conventions and Event management at Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis, will present the course. A 44-page guide accompanies the course.
To spread the word about the course, ASTA will hold a free webinar "Becoming a Travel Agent-A Great Career Choice" from 2 to 3 p.m. ET on May 17. It said more than 400 people have already registered.
The webinar will be led by Heather Kindred, program director of Travel Leaders of Tomorrow. Travel Leaders of Tomorrow is a joint initiative between the Travel Leaders Group and select industry suppliers for job training for travel professionals.
