Travel agents have bucket lists too - places they haven't traveled to yet, but hope to one day. We asked some travel agents to let us in on what's on their bucket list.
Pam Walker, an affiliate of Travel Experts, Walker Adventures, LTD dreams of going to Mongolia. Mongolia is a nation bordered by China and Russia, and centers around Genghis Khan Square. It's one of the world's highest countries and suffers from temperature extremes.
Ever since Jill Petrowsky was a little girl, she has wanted to visit Greece. "Mykonos and Santorini are a must see for me and I cannot wait to spend time there," said Petrowsky. "I have been dreaming of going there ever since I was a little girl.
"Mongolia is just one for me, so mysterious and otherworldly," said Walker who has been to 91 countries. "I still want to go to the 'stans' as well."
Those are the seven countries in Central Asia with the suffix "-stan": Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.
R.D. Gavel had a last-minute opportunity to visit Libya a few years ago during the brief window when American travelers were welcome to the now turbulent country.
"I chose to wait in order to have more time to research this amazing country, which boasts some of the world's most spectacular Roman ruins," said Gavel, an affiliate of Travel Experts, Travel Repertoire. "Sadly, it's now a very challenging destination for a U.S. citizen and I deeply regret that decision, but hope to see the door open again."
Libya is a country in the Maghreb region of North Africa and the country is the seventeenth largest in the World. Its capital, Tripoli, has many high-class hotels for tourists and one of the communities, Cyrene, is one of the top vacation spots in Libya. Unfortunately, the Department of State warns U.S. citizens against all travel to Libya and recommends that U.S. citizens currently in Libya depart immediately. According to their website, 'The security situation in Libya remains unpredictable and unstable, and extremist groups continue to plan terrorist attacks against U.S. interests.'
Alex Dalton, an affiliate of Travel Experts would love to travel to a country that isn't quite a popular travel destination, Iraq. It's in Western Asia. "I would love to go see where the Tigris meets the Euphrates and civilization, as we know it, started," he said.
Closer to home, Andrea Crowther of Susan Peavey Travel, said that she would like to take a trip north to Alaska, The Last Frontier.
Alaska has an amazing number of parks and public lands, such as Noatak National Preserve, that offers outdoor adventures. The Noatak National Preserve extends more than 6.6 million acres protecting the one of the largest untouched mountain-ringed river basin in North America. Alaska is also a destination for whale watching, wildlife and glacier tours, and there are plenty of historical towns to tour and enjoy. Of course, there's also Alaska's most popular and winter experiences include dog mushing. The northern lights are also available for viewing. The country is simply beautiful.
