China Test Drives Its Magnificent Straddle Bus

China just took the lead in the realm of silly public transportation solutions.

The following Facebook video by way of China Xinhua News illustrates the real-world applications of the famed straddle bus Chinese officials are hoping quells egregious traffic conditions.

We finally get to see what this gorgeous behemoth looks like with a video that highlights a 300-meter test that took place recently along a track system.

While the test doesn’t show what this giant beauty could do on the streets in the form of an elaborate and full-speed test.

But we get to see the insides of the bus and how cars might fit snuggly underneath its expanse.

As we previously reported, the Transit Explore Bus, the organization behind the straddle bus’ design, is aiming for a public transport that would sit two meters high and speed along Chinese streets at a clip of 37 miles per hour.

In this case, the test showed off the bus creeping at just 10 kilometers per hour, or about six miles per hour.

Thankfully, we should get a full test of the system according to TEB Tech chairman Bai Zhiming who states, via the video, “a long-distance test is expected to go next year.”

What was previously thought of by some as an improbable solution to traffic woes is getting a full vetting.

We will continue to sit mesmerized and watch it all unfold.
