Hello Hipmunk Expands its Chat Reach

Travel website Hipmunk just unveiled its newest innovation to Hello Hipmunk that will have you far chattier with its service.

The travel website will now offer its wisdom in the form of chats in Facebook Messenger and Slack.

So you can carry on a conversation with a chatbot as if you were swapping texts with really useful friends who have the world’s travel answers at their respective fingertips.

Back in November, we introduced you to Hello Hipmunk, the artificial intelligence arm of the travel website that used email and calendars to ease the burden of tracking down trip details.

Now the company has furthered its reach into consumers' daily lives, launching an innovation that works seamlessly with a chat app you might gravitate towards on a daily basis.

The following video offers a snapshot of how that might work for you:

CEO and co-founder of Hipmunk Adam Goldstein stated via press release, “The average traveler runs 20 searches when planning a trip.”

Goldstein continues on the power of the budding technology: “Hello Hipmunk shrinks that process to one simple conversation. It can process tons of information from flight pricing to room availability and synthesize it instantly.”

Chatbots are all the rage, showing up in services for KLM and, for example. It further illustrates what the market demands in ease of use and convenience when booking travel.

You have your phone out while you are checking social media anyway. You might as well send a missive to an AI pal that will give you an idea of what an impromptu holiday might run.

As for Hello Hipmunk’s version, you can query flights over a range of dates and set preferences to things like carrier, location and day of week.

And you do all of this in a colloquial manner akin to chatting with one of your friends, which somehow makes the process a little more fun and a little less like doing a travel homework project.
