Cuba is becoming far more accessible for anyone hoping to not only visit the island nation, but to phone home from its location.
On Monday, T-Mobile announced that it would join providers that are opening up this vibrant and breathtaking country to the masses in the form of roaming capabilities.
The mobile provider inked an agreement with Cuba's Empresa De Telecomunicaciones De Cuba that will give cell service to those myriad Cuban-bound travelers who are used to such amenities around the globe.
This means things like voice calls, texting and data access are offered to T-Mobile customers considering a future trip.
Back in September, Verizon became the first telecommunications company to offer a similar service to the country previously isolated from a wealth of American visitors.
As for specifics, T-Mobile offers the following: Customers can call into Cuban landlines at $.60 per minute. That is if you have the $15 "Stateside International Talk" feature activated on your respective account.
As for those actually backpacking throughout Cuba, well, you are some lucky individuals.
You are savoring the beauty and flavor of a country so many of us have yet to witness. So a bit of congratulations is in order.
However, you still want the ability to call home or perhaps utilize data to glean crucial information while on the road.
Now you can do just that, opening up Cuba a bit more for those travelers who might be a tad timid at the prospect of visiting a country previously devoid of abundant American cell solutions.
President and CEO of T-Mobile, John Legere, expounded on the deal as well as the fact that 36.6 percent of Cuban-born wireless consumers are with his company: "The historic opening of Cuba is a natural opportunity for us to take action, and we are. That's the Un-carrier way! We have more customers of Cuban descent than any other wireless provider - so connecting them with family and friends in Cuba is a message we heard loud and clear!"
Opportunity continues to widen for those with a hankering for the trip of a lifetime.
