Travel Tech Next: dokiWatch Keeps A Keen Eye On Your Kids

There is a way to make sure everything is okie doki with those kids of yours when you are traveling.

Not that you would dare leave your little ones unattended, but a budding innovation seen at CES 2016 and dominating on Kickstarter offers some peace of mind for parents in the form of a smartwatch for kids.

And when you see the watch, you will presume, as we did, that kids would pretty much want to have these things on them at all times.

It’s called the dokiWatch and it offers location tracking, calling and SOS alert services and more.

Here is a brief video that illustrates the value of such a device:

As of this writing, dokiWatch has 22 days left in its funding round on Kickstarter. But the founders can go ahead and celebrate, because it has already surpassed its goal of $20,000 and then some.

With 633 backers of this writing, dokiWatch has garnered a whopping $119,256 in funding.

If you’d like to join the masses, you can still get in on a device that is being promised to ship by February 2016.

Now the $99 packages are all gone, and the $129 donation has just one watch left. However, there are plenty of devices at the $149 price point, which gets you and your little one a dokiWatch in mango yellow — at least he or she will be highly visible.

Now this isn’t a device specifically geared towards travel, but we saw such value in that regard, especially when you consider all that comes with the dokiWatch.

We encourage you to pore over the information listed on the campaign or website, but we might as well briefly cover what it can do.

It can receive and send video calls to a number of people saved to the phone, which is perfect for seeing and hearing your children who might be out and about with friends.

The part that might truly matters to those set for a big family vacation comes in the form of the tracking software.

There is an emergency mode, which might come in handy if your child wanders a bit and looks up to find that they seem to have misplaced mom and dad.

And for the parents, you can locate and track your child at all times. And, as the campaign states, parents can track multiple children if that is what your brood warrants.

You can even set an alert area, which means dokiWatch will alert you if your child wanders off that virtual section.

Vacations are hectic, especially when you consider the need to corral the litter through unfamiliar destinations.

The dokiWatch obviously doesn’t solve every last safety scenario, but it sure looks promising as a device that can lend a great deal of help.
