Travel Tech Next: FAMBO Aims To Be Your All-In-One Link To Home

A budding bit of technology is aiming to be your go-to device to rid your travels of any and all homesickness.

FAMBO is a little black box of joy, spreading the warmth of home via videophone capabilities, security measures and a private cloud you and family can access.

If that sounds like something you might be able to use in your travels, you can consider funding the process at its Indiegogo page.

The campaign has 39 days left and has raised $1,413 of its $30,000 goal as of this writing, with packages such as the featured $179 donation, which garners you a FAMBO host, an IR remote, HDMI cable and power adapter (hard disk not included).

As for the particulars, the following video sums up nicely what FAMBO aims to become with funding and a process of testing:

Now the start-up tech is absolutely optimistic of what it might be able to accomplish for its users.

Essentially, it would become that crucial tether to your loved ones at home, something that is increasingly missing from, say, your business trips.

Estimated to ship in May of 2016, FAMBO would allow a traveler to connect with home visually, checking in silently to see an adorable toddler playing in the living room or speaking in real-time with family gathered around the television.

This is technology that already exists, but it’s rare to see so many other gadgets crammed into a box that also allows for motion-sensing security, temperature sensing, A/C control, remote surveillance and a cloud that can be enlarged up to 2 TB of hard drive space.

Various versions come, or in some cases don’t come, with hard drives built in. However, you can customize by installing your own:

Here is a bit more on the people behind FAMBO: “The FAMBO team has been working on smart home systems since 2011. Most of the engineers have worked more than 10 years either in software or hardware development. Tens of ARM chips have been tested. Dozens of PCBs have been designed, made and tested. Hundreds of software versions have been developed. All these work contributes to the first prototype of FAMBO.”

We are headed into a future wherein we can virtually bring our home along with us, garnering the capability to check in and navigate our household devices.

If all goes according to plan, FAMBO will be among the industry’s pioneers in this very endeavor.
