Your smartphone needs more power. It needs more protection. Dare we say, it needs more screens.

This week we focus on technology featured at Indiegogo that aims to make the back of your phone far more informative and interesting.

It’s called the popSLATE 2, a phone case that brings more screen to your travels.

We know what you’re thinking: What do I really need with another screen on my phone? It seems like the natural evolution of the smartphone has garnered the perfect number, and it rests at one.

Well, this introductory video is quite eye opening. By the end, we could really see the possibilities of having an extra screen that is ready to dole out info and doesn’t drain nearly as much power as when you plug your password in and pore over your usual complement of apps.

As of this writing, the campaign has raised over $700,000 with 15 days remaining. You can get your own case for $79, which is promised to ship in July.

And what you get with that price will go a long way to answering the burning question of why you would ever need an extra screen.

Well, first, the popSLATE 2 is more than an extra screen, which we will get to in a second.

Available for the iPhone 6’s line of smartphones, the innovation is a case that will protect your phone as well as offering an extra power solution.

The campaign boasts: “The extra reserve battery allows up to nine hours of extra talk time.”

And, as noted, you can redistribute a great many applications to that e-ink display. And as for that display, it has a wealth of possibilities, including a wallet function that will maintain your growing list of “boarding passes, loyalty cards, concert tickets and more.”

It’s also an e-reader, dashboard, clock and potential news feed. So you can see how it might affect your future travels.

The power normally mandated from constantly keeping up-to-date with news and reading your latest novel on the go just got more efficient.

You only really need to open the phone if you want a deeper dive into your applications. It’s a virtual assistant that can maintain the most crucial aspects of your information. And it makes you look that much more important than those other normal people with only one screen on their respective phones.

Thanks to popSLATE we now have extreme screen jealousy.
