10 Of Our Favorite Beaches Around The World
Photos by A Cruising Couple unless otherwise indicated
There is something about being at the beach that excites just about every traveler's spirit. Whether it's the sound of the waves or your toes in the sand, a stunning beach provides a certain sense of relaxation and bliss that’s just plain hard to find elsewhere.
As you can imagine, we love nothing more than being at the beach, and after traveling to over 30 countries, it's part of the reason why we decided to put down roots in Costa Rica. While Costa Rica has its fair share of fantastic beaches (a few of which are mentioned below) there are numerous other beaches around the world that inevitably strike up our wanderlust, always sparking dreams of the next plane to paradise.
If you’re looking for inspiration regarding your next beach destination, here are a few of our favorite beaches around the world to help:
Whitehaven Beach, Whitsundays, Australia
The four-mile oasis called Whitehaven Beach is located on the largest of the 74 Whitsunday Islands, a remote and relatively untouched group of islands best explored by boat. The super white silica sand, lush greenery, and crystal clear river combine to create this stunning Australian scene.
Sunrise Beach, Koh Lipe, Thailand
Thailand is known for its spectacular scenery and stunning beaches. We believe that no beach does it better than Sunrise Beach on Koh Lipe. Koh Lipe is the southernmost island in the country and is often referred to as "the Maldives of Thailand." While we haven't been to the Maldives ourselves, being able to wade out to your knees and see coral and fish just below the surface is a spectacular sight. And don't even get us started on those sunrises!
Bahia de la Luna, Zipolite, Mexico

This super secluded strip of beach is just outside the hippie haven of Zipolite. The beautiful clear water is more like something you would expect on the Caribbean side as opposed to the Pacific, but unlike Cancun, you're likely to have this beach all to yourself.
Playa Bahia, Uvita, Costa Rica
Playa Bahia is our favorite local spot here in Costa Rica, and is one of only a handful of sand spits that reach out a full kilometer into the ocean. The sand spit looks strikingly similar to a whale's tail, similar to the humpbacks that migrate here during the winter months.
McWay Cove, Big Sur, California

Blink and you might miss it. McWay Cove is a super small beach just off Highway 1 that runs along California's scenic coastline. The true draw of this pocket beach is the beautiful waterfall that drops from the cliff straight into the ocean.
Titop, Halong Bay, Vietnam
It's hard not to make a top ten list when you're located inside of an officially recognized world wonder. The beach on Titop Island looks out over the jagged cliffs of Halong Bay. For a real treat, hike to the top of the island for a 180-degree aerial view of the surrounding isles.
Holbox Beach, Isla Holbox, Mexico
The secret is starting to spread about the lovely little island of Isla Holbox. The long white sand beach lies about 40 miles northwest of the infamous Cancun hotel zone. While the tourists come in droves when the whale sharks are passing through, we found the island to be particularly peaceful during our off-season stay.
Helicopter Beach, El Nido, Philippines
On the northern tip of Palawan Island is the stunning archipelago of El Nido. The 45 islands and islets make a magnificent site. One of the closest islands to El Nido Town is Helicopter Island. We kayaked to get there, but you can take a longboat, which will also stop at a few of the neighboring islands. The beach here is virtually empty and really gives you the feeling of being a million miles away from it all.
Cahuita National Park, Cahuita, Costa Rica
This gem on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica brings out the nature lover in us. A hike through Cahuita National Park takes you right along pristine oceanside forest where we saw monkeys, a sloth, lizards and many other animals.
Ipanema, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil
Rio De Janeiro is one of our favorite cities on Earth for many reasons. The fun energy, dynamic landscape, and friendly residents all add to the charm of the "Marvelous City." We have to admit that we never actually stepped foot on nearby Copacabana, mostly due to the fact that we loved Ipanema and the neighborhood of Leblon so much.
