Though the weather outside is frightful ... that shouldn't stop you from having awesome adventures on your winter travels. There are plenty of fun experiences around the world that only take place during the winter season. Take advantage of this special time with your special someone and ...

Sleep In A Hotel Made Of Ice

    Snow Village Finland Ice Restaurant

Yes, it's just as cool as it sounds. The Snow Village in northern Finland is built from scratch every November using a completely original theme and design each time. The construction materials include 1,000 truckloads of snow and about 660,000 pounds of ice blocks sourced from the local river and surrounding area. The final structure includes a restaurant, bar, lobbies, hotel rooms, a church, children’s play area and ice sculptures crafted by an international host of talented artists and sculptors.

We know what you’re thinking — it must be freezing. Well, it is. The rooms are kept between 23 and 28.4 degrees Fahrenheit, but The Snow Village provides you with super-insulated sleeping bags and some handy tips on how to keep warm in your igloo. We were instructed to simply wear thermals and actually warned against wearing too much. If you end up getting too warm and sweating, the resulting wetness will make you cold and uncomfortable.

Race Through The Wilderness On A Dog Sled

    Dog Sledding

Even if you don't claim to be a dog person, an adorable pack of playful huskies might be enough to change your mind. Grab your partner and your team of furry friends for a ride through the winter wonderland.

Driving a dogsled is surprisingly intuitive. After just a few minutes of instructions from the head musher, we were given the reins and started coasting over soft snow. Most tours will have you going tandem, so you'll be able to experience the adventure while riding with your partner. Don’t forget to take some great selfies!

    Chase the Northern Lights

    The Northern Lights

Chasing the Northern Lights takes the romance of stargazing to a whole new level. The auroras are best seen from September through March in the Arctic Circle when the sun sets early. Don't forget to grab a piping hot mug of hot chocolate to keep warm throughout the evening. Horseback Ride on the World’s Cutest Ponies

We don't exactly consider ourselves natural equestrians, but horseback riding on Icelandic Horses made us want to take all of these adorable animals home with us. Icelandic Horses are often pony-sized and mild mannered, but also strong and sturdy, making them perfect for beginner riders. Icelandic horses can be found in wintery countries across the world, though no trip to Iceland would truly be complete without galloping alongside your loved one.

Thaw Out In Your Own Private Finnish Sauna

While it might not be the most romantic of adventures, it is certainly one you won't soon forget — and a fun way to end your frost-filled day. Don your birthday suit and prepare to thaw out in this classic Lappish experience. Traditionally, sauna goers will sit in the steaming sauna until the heat is almost too much to bear. Then, they’ll race outside and jump in the closest body of water or roll in the snow before scurrying back into the heated sauna. Challenge your partner to see who can stay in the longest!
