Beaches Resorts Driving Change in the Caribbean Through Island Impact

Beaches Resorts Driving Change in the Caribbean Through Island Impact

    How do you vacation?

With all of the planning that goes into taking a vacation, there is a surreal feeling of Zen when the day finally comes for you to leave your stress behind and enter the relaxation zone.  Whether your vacation includes a log cabin among snowcapped mountains or sipping a cocktail basking in the Caribbean sun – I prefer the latter – stepping outside of your day-to-day routine is always something to look forward to.

This is especially true when your vacation includes a worry-free stay at a Beaches Resorts where all is included and all is unlimited. The food, the entertainment, the watersports – included. But today’s travelers are looking for more, for an experience beyond the resort.

Peruse your latest travel publication and you will notice a new trend emerging for vacationing families – voluntourism. This idea of giving back while on vacation seems almost inherent, especially when many of the communities supporting the tourism sector suffer from a major lack of resources. While tourism in itself serves as an economic catalyst in the Caribbean specifically, there is always more that can be done. With this in mind, Beaches Resorts and the Sandals Foundation have come together to drive change in the Caribbean through an exclusive new program tailored to their vacationing teens – Island Impact.

Island Impact, the Caribbean’s first ‘volunteenism’ program, allows vacationing students to earn community service hours and bring their all-inclusive experience full circle. Students can earn up to a total of 10 hours through this new initiative and participate in a variety of programs including “Reading Road Trip,” a literacy outreach campaign, homework help and assistance at local youth camps while at Beaches Resorts.

Teens are even given the opportunity to earn service hours before they reach their Caribbean destination through Pack for a Purpose, an ongoing project inviting all voluntourism aficionados to pack and deliver much-needed school supplies and personal hygiene products to the local community. Vacationing for a cause has never been so easy and the teens are invited to lead the charge.

With the assistance of a handy dictionary, it is clear why the name Island Impact was chosen for this program. Impact is defined as an immediate and strong effect on something or somebody. Think quickly and you may credit the Caribbean community as the benefactor of the impact, but with today’s teens more intrinsically motivated than ever before, they benefit just as much as the community. The Luxury Included Beaches Resorts coupled with the feeling of doing ‘good’ is the quintessential vacation – satisfying mind, body and spirit.

So, how do you vacation? Join the wave; join the teens – vacation with an impact.
