Thirty years ago on June 11, a movie premiered that introduced the freewheeling, Chicago-area “righteous dude” to the world. That’s right, it’s been three decades since “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” instructed viewers on how to enjoy Chicago and how to effectively ditch school. Chi-town honors the significant cultural impact of the film with a series of events that capture pivotal scenes at Chicago landmarks. Some of the activities run throughout the summer so check these fun-filled excursions out:

Stand in Ferris’ Shoes On the Skydeck

The Willis Tower, or as it was known back then, Sears Tower, will host a series of experiences mirroring Ferris’ madcap adventures. Climb up to the 103rd floor and walk onto the Skydeck to recreate the famous scene where Ferris gazes down 1,353 feet on the city flanked by Cameron and Sloane. The exact spot where Ferris stood is marked so you can stand in his place with mannequins representing Cameron and Sloane by your side. The activity runs through August 26.

On June 24, dress up as Ferris or your favorite character in the film for the Ferris Lookalike Contest. The requirements are that contestants must dress up in costume and pose on the Skydeck, post the pics on social media with the hashtag #ferrisatskydeck. The winner gets a special Ferris Bueller prize package

Joyride and Nosh on Chicago Snacks

On July 21-23, the modern day version of the Ferrari that Ferris so recklessly drove will be parked outside Willis Tower from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. each day. Visitors are invited to snap photos along side the Ferrari and feel like they just joined Ferris for a crazy ride through Chicago streets.

Fortify yourself for the fun with treats from the Abe Froman Sausage King of Chicago food truck. In a clever nod to the scene where Ferris steals the reservation from an absent Abe Froman, sausage king of Chicago, at the snooty Chez Quis restaurant, local fave Hubby’s Hot Dogs will transform into Abe Froman’s from 12-2pm. The truck will be parked outside the Willis Tower every other Friday through August 26.

    Baseball and A Movie

On June 17, attend the Cubs game against the Pittsburgh Pirates just like Ferris did and snag a “Free Ferris” T-shirt. Clips of the movie will be broadcast on the Wrigley Field video board throughout the game. On June 21, head to Millennium Park for the kick off of the annual Summer Film Series. “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” will be presented on the 40 foot LED screen at 6:30. Sprawl out on the spacious lawn and take in the iconic 80s movie.
