When you plan your next getaway, put Costa Rica on the top of your list. This amazing country has so much to offer curious travelers — awe-inspiring natural beauty, plus delectable cuisine and fascinating culture. Take a look at a few of our top things to do in this Central American paradise.

    Canyon Tours

If you are a person who seeks out the adventurous life wherever you go, then canyoneering in the beautiful wilderness of Costa Rica is probably going to be on your bucket list. Through a combination of hiking and rappelling, the tour guide will lead you through the lush and sometimes steep terrain where you will find breathtaking waterfalls that flow into crystal-clear pools. You'll be taught how to rappel if you don't already know how, lowering yourself down the waterfall for a close-up view of nature.

    Hiking Arenal Volcano

Located 10 miles into the country’s vast jungles; Mount Arenal is the youngest and by far the most active volcano in the region. With a daily eruption, it puts on a show for tourists and natives alike. You can take a day through the green and picturesque base of the volcano where you will be able to see wisps of smoke rising from the caldera.

    Costa Rica's Hanging Bridges

If you'd like a new perspective on the wilds of the jungle, a hike over the Hanging Bridges of Costa Rica's rain forest is the way to go. You can enjoy your surroundings without worrying about a strenuous hike. There is an observation deck that has stunning views. If you get hungry there are a couple of amazing restaurants to grab a bite to eat. For a more unconventional way to get back down, take the sky tram or a zip line.

    Luxurious Hot Springs

If the idea of relaxation appeals to you, a trip to Costa Rica's hot springs will definitely tickle your fancy. You may even want to book accommodations at Tabacon Hot Springs Luxury Resort for the full experience. Get pampered by the staff for the day in one of the beautiful hot spring spas. Later you can hop over to the restaurant or one of the bars for dinner. It's an all-inclusive stay that will have you feeling like royalty.

If coffee is a staple for you, take the time to learn how the beverage has impacted this country. A cup in the morning for most of us is innocuous routine, but in Costa Rica it is crucial to their economy. Much of the world’s coffee comes from this region. Stop by one of the many working farms and take a tour. You can see up close and personal how the coffee bean is made into a rich and robust drink. It's an enriching and informative experience where you get to know the locals and their contribution.

    Create Your Own Pottery

For a wonderful souvenir, visit the Guaitil Pottery Studio in the artisan village of Guanacaste. Costa Rica's history and heritage are steeped in artisan crafts and pottery. You can watch these talented locals create museum-worthy examples that are available for purchase. They will even instruct you and let you try your hand at a creation of your own.

    Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth

There is a chocolate lover inside all of us and what better place to watch the delectable treat being made than Costa Rica. Visit one of the indigenous reserves and behold these wonderful artisans creating chocolate from the plant. They even offer chocolate tastings in the vein of a wine tasting. Chocolate lovers can study to become something of a chocolate sommelier!
