People are talking and it’s everywhere in the news. Apparently, now is the time to travel to Europe and, while every traveler will see the savings in their pocketbook, families and multigenerational groups will likely see the most benefit.

The dollar-to-pound exchange rate is lower than it has been in approximately five years and, to help families take advantage of these low rates, Virgin Atlantic is helping them get to London with special summer family savings.

“Summer has always been one of the most popular times to travel to London, and now thanks to our joint venture with Delta, customers have a better choice of daily return flights and more connections than ever before,” said Chris Rossi, senior vice president, Virgin Atlantic North America. “We’ve also made some amazing enhancements to our already award-winning Economy service, so you can take the whole family across the pond in style, without breaking the bank.”

The summer fare sale offers families booking three to nine tickets to London to take advantage of special discounted rates. Sample fares from Boston, Miami, New York City, Washington, D.C., to London, from June 16 to Aug. 20, start at $687. From Seattle, prices start at $829.

Virgin Atlantic has made some improvements too, making the experience for families even better. New enhancements to its economy class service include upgrades such as:

    - Water at every seat: Water is given straightaway as everyone takes their seats and gets comfortable

    - Cocktails (on the house): separate drinks services are now offered before, during, and after dinner

    - Personalized drinks: Customers enjoy small, individual bottles of wine and alcohol miniatures enabling them to pour and mix their own drinks

    - Freshen up with hot cloth towels: After the first drink is served, cabin crew come around with fragrant hot cloth towels to help customers get rejuvenated before dinner

    - Four-course dinner: When the plane takes off, customers are handed a brand new menu, which has been hand-crafted to taste just as good in the sky as it does on the ground. In addition to an appetizer, main meal, and dessert, a cheese and cracker plate has been added to everyone’s tray. A scrumptious kids’ menu is also available

    - Nibble on something sweet: An after dinner chocolate is served to accompany the hot drinks service

    - Gourmet wrap as afternoon snacks: Before landing, customers have a choice of wraps for a second lighter meal

This is all in addition to the airline’s hundreds of hours of blockbuster entertainment, a free amenity kit for the adults and a kid’s pack for the little ones, as well as a fun after-dinner ice cream treat.

For families looking to cross the pond, there has really never been a better time. According to 2014 figures from VisitBritain, inbound visits from the U.S. hit 2.4 million last year, an 8 percent increase from the year before. It is estimated that an additional 1 million visitors will visit the UK in the next four years.

And there are a host of activities available for families in and nearby London, from classics like the Hop on Hop off Bus, Camden Market and London Dungeons to newer attractions such as the Harry Potter Studio Tour and Legoland in Manchester.

Ready to fly off to the land of tea and crumpets with the brood? Visit And be sure to act fast -- this sale ends April 29.
