There aren’t too many places in Argentina that Aerolineas Argentinas hasn’t been or won’t go to.

    Except for what doesn’t exist.

And even that’s about to change.

According to The Huffington Post, Kris Tompkins, widow of retail king Douglas Tompkins and the former CEO of apparel maker Patagonia, is about to donate enough land to create what will become Argentina’s largest nature preserve.

The nature-loving couple for years had purchased a great deal of wilderness in South America in the hopes of preserving ancient forests and the creatures that live in them.

The donation of more than 340,000 acres is part of a plan to preserve Argentina’s northeastern Iberá wetlands and restore populations of six species of wildlife, including jaguars, that had gone extinct in the region.

According to The Huff Post, Tompkins last week met with Argentine President Mauricio Macri to begin the formal process of turning over the land she owns in Chile and Argentina to be designated for six new national parks.

The move comes nine months after Kris Tompkins offered land in Patagonia – the remote region after which Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard named his company – to be made into national parks.

When combined with the adjacent provincial park lands, it will create the largest conservation land in Argentina.
