Italy — a destination that has a little something for everyone: Art, cuisine, history, fashion, culture. Florence, considered the birthplace of the Renaissance, is a city full of art and culture within the Tuscany region of Italy. If this city is on your “must-see” list, here are some insider tips brought to you by a Monograms Local Host — a local expert on-call and ready to make the best use of your time in Florence.

    • When someone comes to visit me, the first place I take them is Ponte Vecchio, the "Old Bridge." See views from both sides of the bridge and observe as local artists create masterpieces.

    • June is the best time to visit my city because the weather is not too warm, not too cold and the city is not too crowded.

    • You can see my city best from Piazzale Michelangelo. Get a panoramic view of Florence, from Forte Belevedere to Santa Croce.

    • The dish that best represents my city is bistecca alla fiorentina (Florentine steak). An authentic bistecca is browned on the outside, rare inside and large enough to share. And of course, pair with a glass of red wine. The best place to sample this dish is Restaurant Buca Mario.

    • My city's signature drink is a bellini, a cocktail made by mixing prosecco sparkling wine and peach puree or nectar. The best place to sample this drink is Giacosa.

    • Scudieri is my favorite place to grab breakfast. Make sure to also stop back here for dessert later in the evening.

    • The Santo Spirito area is the best spot in my city for late-night eats. Become immersed in the local life while visiting this neighborhood, which is home to plenty of options for restaurants, pubs and people-watching spots.

    • For a fancy night out, I enjoy dinner at Palazzo Borghese or drinks and a view at Hotel Excelsior. At the Palazzo Borghese, go back in time and enjoy a 15th-century Renaissance banquet at this Florentine mansion. Hotel Excelsior has a unique location that provides breathtaking views of the whole city, plus jazz music and expertly mixed cocktails.

    • The best place to spend time outdoors in my city is Boboli Garden. An open-air museum that includes sculptures dating from the 16th through the 18th centuries among blooming flowers and glorious trees.

    • Why Florence? The world should love my city because it has breathtaking works of art, magnificent locations, enchanting nature, delicious food, good wine.

Now you know a few insider tips about Florence from a Monograms Local Host. What other questions might you have while you’re there? Do you need to know where to stay, how to get to these restaurants or how to receive VIP access at the many museums you might want to visit? That’s easy — book a Monograms trip and all of that is taken care of for you. With Monograms, you can travel independently in style without going at it alone. There’s nothing like it. Why travel any other way?
