Oasis Hotels & Resorts is highlighting the best of its home region of Riviera Maya, a group of activities and experiences on land, at sea and in the air that vacationers shouldn't miss.

History

Tulum's archaeology is stunning, as is the nearby beach. Visiting the Mayan city of Coba is a deep jungle excursion, while Chichen Itza, just outside the region, is a Wonder of the World. The Mayan Museum, a collection of artifacts and ruins, sits right next door to Grand Oasis Cancun.

Adventure

Riviera Maya boasts a number of adventure parks, and the one that could be called the most famous is Xcaret, which features aquatic happenings, traditional Mexican shows and close encounters with a diverse number of species. Xplor has a complement of zip lines, amphibious vehicles and underground rivers. The newly renovated Selvatica park amps up the adrenaline with off-road vehicles, roller coasters and bungee jumping. Ventura Park, located in Cancun's Hotel Zone, is more of a contemporary experience, with a roller coaster, go-karts, virtual reality video games and aquatic activities. Vacationers can also drive around and race exotic cars. For something more sedate, basic jungle tours are also recommended.

On (or Under) the Water

The scope of this region's water activities is vast. Fishing is a great way to absorb the blissful tropical ambiance, but for something more high-energy, opt for a hover board or helicopter tour and fly above it all, or jet ski to sail across the waves. For on-water fun, climb aboard the Captain Hook pirate ship, where food, drink, music and games await.

Even under the waves is a host of activities. Swim with harmless whale sharks while taking in the sub-surface scenery during a scuba dive, and then visit MUSA, the world's first underwater museum.

A Day Out

There are plenty of places to walk around in the area, including the tranquil Isla Mujeres and the famous Quinta Avenida (Fifth Avenue), in Playa del Carmen.
