Americans love Portugal and they are flocking to the country in droves. Whether its word of mouth or favorable reviews from the media, there’s no stemming the tidal wave of Americans headed to the country.

According to Tourismo Portugal, recent figures show that the American boom has spread throughout the country, with the Alentejo area up 44 percent, the Azores up 30.8 percent, the North up 25.4 percent and Lisbon up 16.8 percent.

Because so many U.S. visitors are heading to the country, it makes sense for them to want to share such a vibrant country with their families, not just their significant other. And there’s good news in Portugal on the family travel front, as two new family hotels will open in Lisbon this spring.

Martinhal Family Hotels & Resorts, known for its high-end luxury options for multigenerational groups, is opening two new properties. The Martinhal Cascais Family Hotel and the Martin Chiado Family Suites will join two other Martinhal properties in the country – the Martinhal Beach Family Resort and the Martinhal Quinta Family Golf Resort, both of which are in the Algarve.

The two new properties give families a luxury base from which to explore the city of Lisbon.

Martinhal Cascais Family Hotel, which opened this month, offers 68 guestroom and four suites. There are also 12 exclusive villas. The property is located along the coast in the Cascais suburb of Lisbon. The hotel combines the city of Lisbon with the scenery of Portugal’s coastline. Rooms include a private balcony or terrace and offer Lollypop bunk beds, which are sure to be a fun addition for children. Each villa is comprised of two bedrooms, a full kitchen, a living room, a dining area and offers access to a private terrace.

The hotel also offers several dining options and a clubhouse for children with more than 7,700 square feet of play space equipped with age-appropriate activities for children age six months to the early teens.

Martinhal Chiado Family Suites is located in the heart of Lisbon. The hotel is perfectly located for families who are interested in exploring Portugal’s capital city. It offers easy-to-visit UNESCO World Heritage sites like the Belém Tower and Mosteiro dos Jeronimos, and youngsters will enjoy riding the city’s traditional trams, exploring Lisbon’s many parks and gardens and visiting the Oceanário de Lisboa, Europe’s second-largest aquarium.

The hotel, which opens later this spring, will offer a Kids Club as well as the “pajama club” that will offer childcare services until midnight each evening.
