Traveling the world has never been so attainable and appealing. Exploring it on your own can be nerve-wracking thought, but it can also be equally exhilarating. Set your own terms, experience what you want to see, and push yourself out of your comfort zone. Indulge your interests and get to know yourself in ways you didn’t before. You’ll be happy you did.

There’s never been a better time to travel the world on your own. Before you do, read these solo traveler-friendly tips:

    1. Choose a solo-friendly destination. During your research, you might find that certain cities and countries are easier for solo travelers to explore. Europe has always been the top destination for solo travelers. My recommendations? Ireland, Britain, New Zealand and Australia are great choices since they’re English-speaking countries.

    2. Create your bucket list. Flip through guidebooks and peruse travel websites to get an idea of the people, culture and sites you’re likely to experience.  Even better: find a guidebook geared toward solo travelers to learn what it’s like to discover a destination on your own. Just don’t get too bogged down with research … experience is the best way to learn.

    3. Safety first. Although you might think you’ll stand out as a solo traveler, the reality is that you can blend in more easily than a group when you’re on your own. Plus, you won’t be identified as a tourist as often. And not to sound like your mother, but it is smart to be attentive when carrying your ID and valuables.

    4. Enjoy your discoveries. Traveling opens your eyes to new cultures, and traveling alone makes the trip all about you. Take advantage of that fact. Interested in art? Spend extra time at museums. Are you a foodie? Skip the tourist traps and get to know where the locals eat. Active? Run in the mornings to see the city in a different light. You’re bound to learn something about your destination, and yourself, that you didn’t know before.

If you get the chance, everyone should travel on their own at least once in their lives. Having an adventure around the world can become a much deeper experience when traveling alone.
