Cruise lines have been stepping up the entertainment onboard, with thrilling performances and innovative, new evening attractions. From Broadway productions to dinner shows and concerts from notorious bands, these performances are sure to amaze cruise audiences.
Legally Blonde
From a best-selling novel to a film starring Reese Witherspoon, in 2007, "Legally Blonde" became a Broadway show. The seven-time, Tony Award-nominated musical comedy follows the story of a blonde-haired law student's obstacles in a new environment, and is available exclusively on Norwegian Getaway as part of the cruise fare.
Hollywood Rocks
The newest stage production aboard Cunard's Queen Victoriahighlights Hollywood's golden age as well as popular movie soundtracks. "Hollywood Rocks" features everything from "Over the Rainbow" from "The Wizard of Oz" to "The Time of My Life" from "Dirty Dancing." Earning rave reviews from passengers, the show travels from the silent era of film to the modern age with high-energy dance numbers and dazzling costumes.
Mamma Mia!
Royal Caribbean's latest vessel, the Quantum of the Seas showcases London's West End sensationand New York's Broadway hit, "Mamma Mia!" The plot follows a bride-to-be searching for her estranged father to walk her down the aisle, and all the family drama that goes along with it. The heartwarming musical is set on a Greek island and features the hits from the legendary Swedish pop group ABBA.
Disney's Toy Story
The all-time classic, "Toy Story," comes to life onstage in an hour-long presentation aboard the Disney Wonder. Following the story of a young boy's living toy collection, the musical features 10 massive sets and six original songs, plus Randy Newman's classic, "You've Got a Friend in Me."
Carnival Live
Carnival takes a unique approach to musical entertainment with the Carnival Live series. When ships stop in the Bahamas, St. Thomas, Cozumel, or Catalina Island, well-known bands like Journey, Styx, and Rascal Flatts will board the vessels and put on unforgettable performances. Tickets cost between $35 and $60 per guest,with VIP tickets ranging from $125 to 250 (and include a meet-and-greet with the band).
Rock of Ages
The Broadway sensation, "Rock of the Ages," tells the story of two lovebirds trying to make it big in Los Angeles in the 1980s. Exclusively on Norwegian Breakaway, the musical brings back the style of infamous bands with top hits of the 80s including "Don't Stop Believin," "We Built This City," and "the Final Countdown."
We Will Rock You
When Anthem of the Seasdebuts this spring, it will host London's premier musical, "We Will Rock You." The show drew 6.5 million people in a record-breaking 12 years at London's Dominion Theatre, and features the music of Queen. The futuristic plot takes place in a time when music has been banned, and it takes the discovery of sounds and songs like "Radio Ga Ga," "Somebody to Love," and "Bohemian Rhapsody" to bring it back.
