For luxury travel, you can't go wrong with Copenhagen, Denmark. History, culture, and some of the best attractions in the world can be found here. There are so many things to see and do, and they do not cost as much as you might think. Taking in the sights here is the easiest way to experience a lavish country, while not spending all of your savings at same time. Below are our top picks the next time you find yourself in Copenhagen.

    The Little Mermaid

Head over to Langelinje Pier and visit one of the most famous attractions in Copenhagen. The Little Mermaid sculpture was originally unveiled in August 1913. This makes her just over 100 years old. Yes, this is the same Little Mermaid that Disney based their hit animated film on. It all started here in Copenhagen. Who knew?

After a long day of sightseeing, this is the perfect place to unwind. Nyhavn is a waterfront entertainment area. Maybe take a moment and dip your feet into the water. Originally a major commercial port, this place has been reinvented. It is filled with classy, posh dining establishments, and the houses have been magnificently restored. They all work together to provide a nautical, festive vibe.

This is the main shopping area for Copenhagen. It is also one of the longest pedestrian traffic ways in Europe. It contains a conglomeration of shops from wallet conscious to wealthy and extravagant. Shop to your heart’s content and marvel at all the city has to offer.

    Amalienborg Palace

This palace is considered to be one of the greatest examples of Danish rococo architecture. It was built in the 1700s and is actually made up of four different identical buildings. Be sure to take a peek at the museum to see what life was like in the past, and also experience real life in the present as you walk through the palace and accompanying courtyards. If you're lucky, you might get to see the changing of the guard. This is always a unique experience.

    Tivoli Gardens

This amusement park thrills both young and old. Just a hop and skip from City Hall, you will be thrilled at all the park has to offer. The rides are beautiful and nostalgic, yet can also be fine-tuned for thrillseekers, so beware. If rides are not your thing, then be sure to check out a show or two while you are there. Again, the beauty of the park is that they have an entertainment option for all ages.

    Rosenberg Castle

Stop and experience 400 years of history, the Royal Arch, and national treasures. Here, you can view the coveted crown jewels as well as the famous Royal Regalia. All of this is set inside the castle, which is located in Kings Garden at the very center of Copenhagen.

    Christiansborg Palace

There's so much to see and do here that you might want to reserve about half of a day to get it all in. The palace is home to the Queens tapestries. These 11 works of art are some of the most amazing wall hangings in the world. Also, the ruins underneath the palace date back to Bishop Absalon. They have been carefully excavated and the ruins have been well preserved. The tower is another must see on your itinerary. Admission is free and it offers one of the more spectacular views of the city.

Finally, be sure to visit the Royal stables. Here you will see how royalty was carted to and fro at a time long gone. In fact, the peak of the palace’s stable was the year 1789, when it contained 270 horses total.

    Copenhagen Card

The really neat thing about Copenhagen is that they offer a tourist card, called the Copenhagen Card. Consider it to be a travel card that gives you access to over 72 attractions at a reduced or free rate. This is a great way to take in as much of the city as you can, and also gives you the freedom to pick and choose which attractions you want to visit, and which you might save for later. With so much to see and do in Copenhagen, the only sure thing is that you will definitely be back for more.
