If you grew up in the 80s or 90s, there’s a chance you spent hours in front of the TV swooning over Dylan McKay and are intimately familiar with the term “Baja California”.
The location—made widely known by the hit television program Beverly Hills 90210—has become a booming hot spot since the show premiered almost 30 years ago. In addition to its renowned sun and surf, the destination has several attractive qualities that make this location in Western Mexico a vacay must right now.1. Price & Proximity
With direct flights from Los Angeles, San Diego and Dallas flying into Los Cabos daily, the price of flights and the convenience of travel make Cabo (that’s what those in-the-know call it) an appealing last minute getaway for couples and families alike. Between flights starting under $200 and resort promotions like Hyatt Ziva’s Swing Into Spring offer, a dream vacation can easily become a reality.
2. Two Worlds, One Location
Within Los Cabos, there are two unique cities that aside from sharing a name, have little in common.
San Jose del Cabo, is the smaller of the two cities and is known as a thriving resort area. Despite the surrounding resorts, the historic town remains a quaint locale with cobblestone streets, charming shops, art galleries, handcrafted souvenirs and a central square that remains a meeting place during evenings through the fall and winter months. It’s the perfect spot for travelers looking for a relaxing retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Alternatively, Cabo San Lucas is more commercialized, in the heart of the entertainment district and located near the marina. If you’re looking for an experience filled with excitement, Cabo San Lucas is the perfect alternative with bars and restaurants prevalent and fishing tournaments taking the main stage.
While considered one destination, Los Cabos is two distinct worlds, allowing travelers to create an experience that is unique to them and their individual interests.
3. The Weather
The destination is widely known for its climate and geography, making it ideal for travel all year along. It generally rains in Los Cabos less than 24 days per year and has an average temperature around 75°F during the winter months. That equates to 341 days of sunshine. Plus, it’s not a typical tropical vacation. The roads are lined with cactus and picturesque champion golf courses and some of the most romantic beaches in the world are just a short drive away. Did we mention there’s no humidity?
4. Scuba, Snorkeling & Sea Life
From whales to underwater sand falls, there’s truly something special about the Sea of Cortez and the vast number of opportunities and experiences tied to nature that can be found within the Baja.
Starting in December, you can spot gray and humpback whales from the comfort of your hotel room when staying at Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos. If you want to get out of your room and go explore, there is also a view finder in the lobby for an even closer look. If you can’t make a trip this month, don’t worry, the whale-watching season runs through mid-April.
The dive site, Sand Falls was first discovered by Jacque Cousteau and is in close proximity to other renowned tourist attractions including El Arco and Lovers Beach. The falls can be found 90 feet below water where you can both see and feel the movement and weight of the sand as it drops 60 feet below. Be sure to bring your underwater camera to document the moment – you’ll want to share it with friends and family back home.

5. The Food Scene
There’s a reason Adam Levine and his Victoria Secret bride, Behati Prinsloo chose Flora Farms as the low-key culinary haven for their destination wedding. The lush and rustic experimental farm is located just outside of Los Cabos and touts an organic farm to table restaurant and bar, grocery store and cooking school. Whether you’re a foodie that is passionate about the importance of eating organic or an Instagram-lover looking for that perfect pic, this is the place to be.
Art lovers can even take painting lessons at the Mango Grove every Thursday morning. The only thing you need to bring is yourself since the lessons include all materials needed, lunch and even wine. Did we mention they even have a donut bar on Sundays and quite possibly the best Bloody Mary south of the border? If heaven was a place on earth, it would be Flora Farms.
