Top 6 Things to See While Road Tripping San Diego

Top 6 Things to See While Road Tripping San Diego

I can’t help but love road tripping to California. It’s a beautiful state with so much to offer, and the year round sunshine keeps bringing us back.

We were recently down in San Diego on a road trip, and unlike many of our other road trips, this time we were actually able to spend a full week in San Diego, enjoying the local festivities and attractions.

After spending a week exploring the town, and different attractions, I've put together a list of our favorite things to do in San Diego:

    1. Coronado Island

A fellow road tripper actually recommended that we stop at Coronado Island while in town, and I’m glad we did. The drive over the bridge to Coronado Island was breathtaking, and gave us a small glimpse of what the island had in store for us. We first stopped at Hotel del Coronado, as it’s a really popular tourist attraction with a lot of history. We then spent the day at the beach behind the hotel, eating ice cream, and soaking up some sunshine.

    2. Cabrillo National Monument

Another historic landmark in San Diego, this monument represents the first landing of a European explorer onto the West Coast of America. If you’re not big into history, this is still a great place to go for stunning views of San Diego down below.

    3. Tidepooling

Just down the road from the Cabrillo National Monument is a busy tidepooling area. Tidepooling is popular in San Diego. When there is low tide, little puddles of sea life become visible in hollowed out rocky along the beach. It's a really fun experience to walk along the beach and watch the different varieties of sea life thrive in these tidepools.

    4. Old Town

This is one of my personal favorite places to see in San Diego. Old Town is a historic district in San Diego that commemorates life in the early days of the town's existence. Walking around Old Town, you`ll see lots of historic-looking buildings, and quite a bit of the Spanish culture. There was even an old historic play being acted out in the park area while we were there. We spent quite a bit of time wandering in and out of the local shops, enjoying the historic views of the town, and eating a ton of delicious food.

    5. Lucha Libre Taco Shop

I had to add this food place to the list as it became our favorite place for lunch. We first discovered Lucha Libre Taco Shop on an episode of "Man vs Food," and had to discover this place for ourselves. We loved the food so much, we went back three times during the week we were in San Diego.

    6. La Jolla Beach

If you're looking for a beach town to hang out in for a week or so, La Jolla is a beautiful place for this. It reminds me a little of Cannon Beach in Oregon, but much busier. The downfall of course is the traffic getting into the beach town, but it's worth the trip. There's even a massive cave that you can kayak into. We weren't able to do this while in town because there was such high demand for the kayak rentals, we just enjoyed our time at the beach instead.

What's your favorite thing to do in San Diego?
