St. Vincent and The Grenadines is an island nation in the southern Caribbean. Initially, this country was inhabited by the Arawaks and Caribs, then Africans (black Caribs), before French and English occupation of the islands. SVG gained independence from the British in 1979. There are 32 islands comprising this country, however, only 9 of them are inhabited. Apart from the main island of St. Vincent, Bequia and Union are the busiest and have the most amenities for tourists. Here are a few of the top hotel choices on those islands.
Bequia Island
Sugar Reef Bequia: This stunning eco-chic boutique hotel is set on the north of the island at Crescent Beach. Three rooms designed in '50s and '60s Caribbean-style are set right on the beach, while there is a French house with stunning wood furniture high on the hill behind the 65-acre coconut plantation. The French home is great for big groups or families and the views from up there are incredible. Being beachside is lovely as well, as you can hear the waves at night and it is very close to the restaurant (which serves delicious food) and common area. With elegant, natural touches such as coral lamps and driftwood chandeliers, this lovely hotel should be your top choice for Bequia.
The Frangipani Hotel: This hotel has been around for about 100 years! It was initially a family home before becoming a hotel. The owner is the daughter of the former Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and The Grenadines. This is a very well-known hotel, as are the other businesses owned by this family. Located right on Admiralty Bay, this is a great spot for a hotel. You'll be right in the action, close to restaurants and you can enjoy the beautiful waterfront walkway. Room prices vary from budget to high-end.
Bequia Beach Hotel: There are 68 rooms at this massive, beachfront hotel. There's a wide variety of rooms to choose from including oceanfront and cottage style. Many of the rooms are huge - 700 square feet! The furniture in the rooms is beautiful and the views of Friendship Bay are spectacular. There's an onsite restaurant and a pool as well. A very luxurious option indeed.
Union Island
Union island is raw, real and unpretentious. There are a few options for hotels here, but some of them are worn down. We recommend staying at King's Landing Hotel. The owner there, Marius, is doing loads of renovations (which should be completed by now). King's Landing offers 2 spacious beachfront cottages, sea view rooms and garden view as well. The staff here are fabulous and the hotel is located in a good spot. You can see Happy Island from here - definitely make sure to head over there for a day, trust us, you'll have a great time! Near to the hotel you'll find restaurants and street food too. Marius is well-known on the island and is able to arrange activities and tours for you, as well as offer advice on transportation and sights.
