Passengers on Hurtigruten’s seven ships have the opportunity to go ashore on Norway’s rocky coast under the guidance of the cruise line’s top-notch expedition teams.

Not only do team members lecture about such topics as biology, history and geology, they are your hosts throughout the journey. Hurtigruten says, “They are hand-picked for their local expertise and specific knowledge in relevant fields. They are also known for their enthusiasm, curiosity and love for the areas we visit.”

Visitors will be using all senses to fully immerse into the landscapes — and while on these adventures, passengers will get a major dose of “frilufsliv,” a Norwegian term for a longing to be outside, something that is inextricably tied to their way of life.

Be prepared for rugged terrain on these thoroughly Norwegian hikes with all-weather walking shoes or boots, a windproof and waterproof jacket, hiking pants, gloves, a hat, a water bottle and sunglasses. Lightweight binoculars and a camera are also recommended.
