Alas, one of the greatest treasures of Argentina does not play soccer.
But she plays the piano, and she is brilliant.
Martha Argerich is a name known mostly to aficionados of classical music, but certainly a name you should know. She is widely considered one of the great pianists of our time.
Now in her 60s, Argerich still tours and, in fact, will play a rare date in the United States when she appears in Los Angeles on April 8, 2017 for a scheduled performance at the Walt Disney Concert Hall.
She is widely known for her interpretation of the virtuoso piano literature of the 19th and 20th centuries, and she is also a great fan of chamber music as well.
Argerich is also revered for his philanthropic work with young artists. In 1999 she created the first International Martha Argerich Piano Competition in Buenos Aires, for which she also served on the jury that awarded the prizes.
Here is one of Argerich’s performances, and a recording session with the great violinist Itzhak Perlman.
