Orion to Debuts New Expeditions to Russian Far East
Orion Expedition Cruises will debut a new itinerary of Russia’s Far East region with journeys departing on June 18 and June 28. The first of new itineraries and destinations made possible by the addition of the line’s second ship, the Orion II, the 10-night “Natural Treasures of the Russian Far East-Voyage of Discovery” sailings follow the 32 volcanoes stretched across the Bering Sea, known as “The Northern Ring of Fire.”
Guests onboard the Russian Far East sailings can climb up a caldera wall to a hydrothermal field with hot springs and sulphur crystals, visit local markets in seaside villages to savor barbecued salmon and vodka, and see native wildlife in their natural habitats -- including arctic foxes, orca whales, some of the world’s largest eagles and seals -- from the ship’s fleet of Zodiac boats.
Orion II’s 2011 voyages are led by a highly trained expedition team. Onboard amenities include a boutique, massage and health spa, satellite television and 24-hour room service. Orion II’s voyages to the Russian Far East begin and end in locations with international flight access -- Sapporo and Petropavlovsk -- which provide an exclusive connecting charter to streamline arrivals and departures. The 2011 Russian Far East expedition begins from $6,930 per person for an ocean-view suite, with junior suites from $9,605 and the Penthouse Suite for $13,940.
