Zhongdian's stunningly picturesque setting is believed to have been the inspiration of the mythical Shangri-La described in James Hilton's novel, “Lost Horizon.”

In addition to relishing the local scenery, guests will visit the Yi Minority Village, home of one of the largest minority groups in southwest China. The last stop on the program is a sightseeing tour of the Sumtseling Monastery, sometimes referred to as the Little Potala Palace, one of the largest Tibetan Buddhist monasteries in Yunnan province dating back to 1679.
