Princess to Turn Ship Around in Quake-Ravaged Chile

March 02, 2010 12:01 AM

Princess Cruises’ Star Princess said it will end its current cruise in Valparaiso, Chile, as scheduled on March 2, since the cruise terminal is open and operational. The airport is operating on a very limited basis, and the vast majority of inbound and outbound flights have been cancelled. Should flights remain limited on March 2, the line will keep Star Princess in Valparaiso for at least another 24 hours so passengers who are unable to fly out will be able to stay onboard until flight operations resume. Passengers who are already in Valparaiso will be able to embark and stay onboard the ship.

Princess was planning to operate the following cruise, which is sailing to Rio de Janeiro, but the earliest the ship would sail from Valparaiso would be March 3 at 6 p.m. Passengers who booked their air through Princess are being rebooked and their pre- or post-cruise packages modified. The line said it is assisting passengers onboard who made independent travel plans in Valparaiso by checking on the status of their hotels. “This is a fluid situation and can change at any time,” Princess said. “We are continuing to provide updates to our passengers as we receive new information.” For more information, visit www.princess.com.
