With more than 100 properties in 19 countries, RIU Hotels & Resorts is one of the most popular resort chains in the Caribbean and the fourth-largest in Spain. Its 34 resorts in Latin America and the Caribbean include properties—nearly all of them beach resorts—in Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Aruba and the Bahamas.
In December 2011, the chain debuted the Riu Palace Bavaro, an elegant resort in the RIU Punta Cana complex in the Dominican Republic, located directly on the beach of Arena Gorda. The opening of this hotel coincided with the celebration of the 20th anniversary of RIU’s international presence. In November 1991, the family-owned company opened its first resort outside of Spain, the hotel Riu Taino in Punta Cana. Two decades later, on the same site where this historic hotel was located, the chain opened its third property in the luxurious Riu Palace line. The Riu Palace Bavaro features the chain’s 24-hour all-inclusive program, which offers guests snacks and beverages throughout the day and night.
More than half of RIU hotels are all-inclusive. RIU’s product lines include Riu Classic Hotels, 3-, 4- or 5-star hotels situated on the finest beaches in the Caribbean, Mexico, Costa Rica, the Mediterranean, the Canary Islands and North Africa; ClubHotels, which all feature “All Inclusive by Riu” service and cater especially to young couples, the young-at-heart, sports-lovers and families; RIU Palace, the luxury line, characterized by choice beachfront locations, elegant palatial architecture, sophisticated decor and fine cuisine; and the new RIU PLAZA line, located in business districts of large cities, with facilities for business travelers, conferences and meetings.
