The opening of the new Riu Palace Bavaro, in the Dominican Republic, coincides with the 20th anniversary of Spain-based hospitality company Riu Hotels & Resorts international expansion. Located in the Riu Punta Cana complex, the property is the 34th Riu property in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Representing an investment of $80 million, the resort boasts 610 rooms distributed between a main building and villas that offer wireless Internet access, which is also available in the lobby. The property showcases four restaurants, a lobby bar serving ice cream and pastries, and a 24-hour sports bar in addition to four pools, a kids club with its own pool, a spa and fitness center, casino, 12,916-square-foot convention center and daily entertainment. The property is Riu’s fifth in the Dominican Republic and the third Riu Palace property in the Dominican Republic. Riu Hotels & Resorts opened its first property outside of Spain in 1991 with the Riu Taino in Punta Cana.
