Royal Caribbean International is partnering with toy manufacturer Mattel to launch the “Barbie Premium Experience,” a series of Barbie-themed events, amenities and gifts, to the line’s 22 ships beginning in January 2013. The program will be rolled out to the entire fleet by March of 2013.

“The most popular doll in the world is coming to the world’s most innovative cruise line,” said Vicki Freed, senior vice president of sales and trade support and services at Royal Caribbean, and a Barbie aficionado who has a personal collection of nearly 200 Barbie dolls. “When you think of all of the families we carry aboard our ships, this program is a perfect fit,” said Freed.

The partnership will encompass complimentary activities within Royal Caribbean’s Adventure Ocean youth program as well as a Barbie Premium Experience priced at $349 per child. Girls participating in the Adventure Ocean youth program can enjoy a Barbie movie night, Barbie story time and other themed activities, as well as Barbie movies on their stateroom televisions.

Girls who opt for the Barbie Premium Experience will enjoy staterooms decorated in the iconic doll’s signature pink décor plus exclusive themed activities throughout the duration of their cruise, from an invitation-only tea party and mermaid dance class to a fashion design workshop and Barbie girls’ fashion show.

The Barbie Premium Experience will also include a Barbie stateroom adorned in the doll’s signature style and featuring a Barbie doll and fashions, blanket and pillowcase, tote bag, toothbrush and toiletries bag; an invitation-only “Tiaras and Teacups” party featuring pink pastries and pink lemonade served on dainty dishes; a mermaid dance class where girls can learn the latest dance moves; a fashion designer workshop where girls can channel their inner fashion designer with Barbie inspiration boards and sketch materials; and a fashion show where girls can dress up to walk a pink carpet in front of family and friends and also perform their dance routine as well as display their Barbie fashion creation.

The Barbie Cruise Vacation doll is not a Royal Caribbean-branded Barbie doll and is not exclusive to Royal Caribbean vessels, according to a Mattel spokesperson. The doll guests receive when they book the Barbie Premium Experience is the Barbie Cruise Vacation doll, which was already in development at Mattel prior to the Royal partnership.
