Sabre’s Gilliland Joins Energy Security Leadership Council
Sam Gilliland, chairman and CEO of Sabre Holdings, has joined the Energy Security Leadership Council (ESLC). The ESLC is a group of business and retired military leaders who support long-term policies to reduce U.S. oil dependence and is led by Gen. P.X. Kelley (Ret.), 28th commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps, and Frederick W. Smith, chairman, president and CEO of FedEx Corporation.
Securing America’s Future Energy is a nonpartisan organization that aims to reduce America’s dependence on oil and improve U.S. energy security to bolster national security and strengthen the economy. In 2006, SAFE formed the Energy Security Leadership Council to bring together some of America’s most prominent business and military leaders to build support for a comprehensive, long-term policy to reduce U.S. oil dependence and improve energy security.
Components of the ESLC’s broad policy goals are expanded production of domestic oil and gas, continued improvements in fuel economy standards, and in the long-term, severing oil’s stranglehold on the transportation sector through alternatives like the electrification of light-duty vehicles and natural gas vehicles for heavy-duty trucks. The ESLC works aggressively to build bipartisan support for its energy security policies.
