Salinas, Calif., to Host Annual Steinbeck Festival
On May 3 to 6, the National Steinbeck Center will present the 32nd Annual Steinbeck Festival, in collaboration with The Woody Guthrie Centennial, a worldwide celebration with the Grammy Museum and the Woody Guthrie Archives. This four-day event will take place at the National Steinbeck Center at One Main Street in Salinas, Calif., with Steinbeck Festival international fringe participants in cities of letters around the world, including Buenos Aires, Ithaka, Canberra, Port-au-Prince, Jerusalem, Sag Harbor, Prague and Cebu. These international partners participate in various ways, honoring the theme “A Voice” and the literary work of John Steinbeck.
Some of the highlights confirmed for the festival include the Woody at 100 Exhibition; author Susan Straight’s talk, “Voices and Stories: Daughters, Migrants, Foster Mothers and ‘Real’ Mothers in California”; Storytalk: Salinas Teens Present their Life in Comics; One Okie Migrant Family’s Story: and more.
