August 09, 2012 10:36 PM

The San Diego Convention & Visitors Bureau has launched a redesigned and retooled website, with updates to its appearance and functionality. The new site focuses on imagery, content and interactivity with rich media including video and customized maps. It features a sunny interface that embodies the San Diego brand.

The website features 250 pages of content and more than 600 articles highlighting events and special offers at area hotels, restaurants, attractions and activities. It is divided into sub-regions including Coronado, La Jolla, North County and East County, with content geared to areas of interest like sports activities, dining, nightlight, and arts and culture.

Among the key features are "where to stay" and "what to do" resources by sub-region, with a hotel booking tool; mapping capabilities to help visitors locate hotels, restaurants, attractions and other places; simple navigation that directs visitors by sub-region and areas of interest; full website search capabilities by keyword; a "ShareThis" feature on every page, allowing visitors to share page content through nearly 100 social media channels; a pinned website footer with links to the SanDiego.org blog; a field to sign up for email updates about the region; direct links to SanDiego.org's Twitter, Facebook and YouTube pages; and resources specifically designed for travel trade, media and meeting planners, including hotel and venue search tools for meeting planners that are sortable by guest and room capacity.
